The Organizaci\u00f3n de Productores Pesqueros Artesanales del Estrecho<\/a> (OPP78), the organisation that manages the Tarifa fish marke<\/strong>t, has completed the installation of a photovoltaic plant<\/a> on the roof of the building. It is the first fish market in Andalusia to be supplied with renewable energy from the sun and has received prior approval for the project from the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), which promotes this type of facility as part of its Green Strategy<\/a> within the framework of 2030 sustainable development goals<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

OPP78’s investment in the project amounted to 58,629 euros (excluding VAT), and was financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) and the Andalusian Regional Government (Junta de Andaluc\u00eda).<\/p>\n\n

The facility has a power of 65 kWp (105,376.80kWh), which will make it possible to store the excess energy generated during the day to supply the busiest hours at night and optimise the energy consumption of both the fish market and the ice factory annexed to it.<\/p>\n\n

The main objective of this project is to enable the fish market building in the fishing port of Tarifa<\/strong> to operate autonomously<\/strong> from the point of view of the electricity supply. In addition to the energy savings, the photovoltaic plant will feed the surplus energy into the grid, thus contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and the sustainability of the Port of Tarifa, reducing the carbon footprint and helping the planet to combat climate change.<\/p>\n\n

A total of 104 solar modules have been installed on the available roof area of the building, perfectly integrated visually into the building’s characteristic tiled roof and attached to it by means of a steel structure treated with a Magn<\/em>elis, particularly suitable for highly corrosive environments due to salinity<\/em> such as that of the Puerto de Tarifa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

This initiative forms part of the measures that the OPP78 has in its Production and Marketing Plans for this year, which are included in the principle of sustainability<\/a> and interest in green and renewable energy<\/strong>, as well as energy self-consumption.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
